Embracing the Fun (and Chaos) of Aging
Aging is fun, right? One minute you’re feeling like your most confident self, and the next—boom—new gray hairs and a hormonal breakout just for kicks. 😆 But honestly? I’m here for it. There’s something empowering about embracing where we are right now, while also taking care of ourselves in a way that makes us feel good.
The Unexpected Perks of Aging
We hear all the time that aging is something to fight against. Anti-aging creams, hair dye, Botox—there’s an entire industry built around making sure we never look a day older. But what if we flipped the script? What if instead of dreading every new fine line or silver strand, we learned to appreciate them?
Here are some of the “fun” surprises that come with aging—and how I’m rolling with them:
➝ Gray Hairs Making an Appearance
I used to think gray hair was something that happened to other people, until one day I found one…and then another…and another. Instead of panicking, I’m plucking as they come and still getting my hair colored. Just DARK, because lightening it to hide the grays was damaging the rest of my hair. Hey. I didn’t say I was perfect!
➝ Hormonal Acne (Because Why Not?)
Teenage me would be shocked to learn that breakouts don’t magically disappear after high school. Hormonal shifts, stress, and just being a person mean that acne can still pop up in adulthood. The difference now? I have skincare that actually works, and I know that one pimple (or five) doesn’t define my beauty. PLUS, working on my gut health changes everything from the inside out, so my moods don’t actually have to match my face.
➝ Knowing What Works for Me
One of the best parts of aging? I know what I like. I know what makes me feel good. My skincare routine is simple but effective. My makeup enhances rather than hides. My jewelry makes me feel polished even when my to-do list is a mile long. And my hair? Well, it’s going to do its own thing, even with the best hair care, and that’s okay.
Taking Care of Yourself, Not “Fixing” Yourself
Aging isn’t about trying to turn back the clock—it’s about feeling good in the season you’re in. For me, that means:
➝ Prioritizing Skincare – Hydration, SPF, and products that support my skin rather than fight against it.
➝ Using Makeup That Works for My Life – Quick, easy, and enhances what’s already there. No time for a 45-minute routine over here!
➝ Wearing Jewelry That Feels Like Me – A little sparkle can make a big difference in how put-together I feel.
➝ Letting My Hair Do Its Thing – Whether that means embracing the grays, covering them, or switching up my style, I’m giving myself permission to do what I want.
The Bottom Line
Aging isn’t something to fear—it’s something to own. It’s a privilege. It’s proof that we’re out here living. And if that comes with a few silver streaks and surprise breakouts? So be it.
